Ear Wax Removal

Ear wax is normal, but at times excessive wax can cause a blockage. This can be uncomfortable, painful and make it hard to hear.

Don’t worry, this is only temporary hearing loss and can be solved with our microsuction ear wax removal service. This is a safe, gentle and very effective way of the removing wax without using jets of water.

Earwax and Hearing Aid Performance

Excessive wax can also affect the performance of hearing aids and cause feedback or whistling. We can provide a free clean and check to ensure your hearing aids are working to their optimum performance. Microsuction is safe for those with perforated eardrums.

Microsuction is harmless

Microsuction is the gold standard of wax removal offering a safe, gentle and very effective way of removing wax using a soft suction or vacuum. Traditional ear syringing uses a jet of water, which many people find unpleasant and many patients are unsuitable, for example if they have a perforated eardrum.

Micro-suction is safe and harmless, using no jets of water at all.

What should I do before my ear wax removal appointment?

Prior to an appointment to remove ear wax we advise putting olive oil drops in both ears or the affected ear for 7 days.

Follow the instructions on the container which recommends 2 applications twice daily. This softens the ear wax and enables it to be removed gently and effectively.

A popular brand is Earol which delivers a fine spray of olive oil coating the ear wax evenly.

What should I do if I suspect I have very hard impacted wax?

Please feel free to contact our hearing aid audiologist to discuss any discomfort and he will be able to help identify the problem.

When the ear wax has built up so much there is layer after layer of hardened ear wax going all the way down the ear canal.  Using sodium bicarbonate drops or Otex drops for 2-3 days before then swapping onto olive oil drops for 5-7 days is usually best before a consultation.

Impacted wax often necessitates 2 visits and very rarely 3 consultations. If you suspect you have other conditions of the ear, for example perforated eardrum, grommets etc please phone or visit us and we can provide the best solution for you.

Ear Wax Removal Cost

Our ear wax removal service costs £85 for both ears.

Prior to booking online, if it has not been confirmed by a skilled practitioner that ear wax is the issue, it is vital that you contact us to discuss your appointment so that we can decide on the order of treatment (a triage).

If an appointment has been booked online without a triage and ear wax is not present, we will refund only half the charge for that appointment.
